The 16th century timber-framed cottages numbered 130-136 are Grade I listed. In 1953 the owner of No. 132 discovered hidden panels painted with religious themes, dated between 1470 and 1500. Before the Reformation the cottages may have been a pilgrims’ hospice on the route to the nearby Ashridge Monastery which supposedly held a holy relic.
