Initially, in 1854, Little Gaddesden school was held in the coffee room of the Bridgewater Arms inn. The children had to enter and leave by climbing through the window as they were not allowed in the licensed bar. The new schoolroom was opened in June 1858 and about 90 children attended. In 2005 it has 100 pupils and a modern extension.
