A memorial brass on the floor of the nave of St Mary's church for John Doyly, who died on 10 February 1492 (according to British History Online the date is in Arabic numerals). "The distance in time is breath-taking," says the author. "In that year Lorenzo de Medici, Renaissance prince of Florence and patron of Michelangelo, also died and Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic to travel beyond the edge of the world known to Europeans. And we can still look at his memorial!"
