4-8 Queensway is a grade II 18th century building, formerly No. 1 High Street. The Hemel Hempstead Mechanics' Institute and Club, founded in 1839, bought the old house in 1919 for use as a social club. It still owns the building. In 2022 a firm of funeral directors occupied the front of the ground floor.
