Sending your photos to the PhotoGroup

When you first send us photographs that are accepted for publication we will ask you to sign our standard licence. This states that you own the copyright of the pictures you supply to us, you license the Chiltern Society to manipulate your photos and publish them with an acknowledgement to you. The licence is non-exclusive which means you can exploit your photos in other ways. The “right to privacy” can be an issue; please be sure to read the privacy advice here.
 
In general we prefer to receive your photos without any manipulation but if you wish to tweak your originals that’s fine. We will do whatever manipulation we consider necessary to make your images suitable for publication.
 
There is usually no need to adjust the image size and resolution. As a minimum we prefer images to be around 300ppi with the longer side 7ins (2100 pixels). Of course big files will take longer to upload to our server (see below) so you may want to limit the size of each photo to no more than about 10MB. Use JPEG format.
 
It is essential that the file name for each photo is unique. Please delete the camera-generated file number. The file name should be prefixed with the initials (in CAPS) quoted in para 2 of the WELCOME email you received and be a short descriptive caption with the month/year the photo was taken, e.g. QB St Nicolas font Taplow 03_18.jpg.  PLEASE DO NOT USE AN APOSTROPHE IN THE FILE NAME because it will cause the upload to fail.
 
We like to publish extended captions with our photos and very much welcome additional information which should correlate with your file names and be sent in a Word document attached to an email (see below). Don’t hesitate to include your own observations about the subject matter: the more your personality comes over, the better. 
 
We prefer you to use Upload Photos below so that more than one of our website team can access your photos on our server.  Be patient, uploading takes time. If you have any problems please contact support@chilternphoto.org.uk. Send an email to webphotos@chilternphoto.org.uk when you have finished uploading. We will acknowledge safe receipt (or otherwise!).
 
If you are using a phone or tablet you can send us your photos and captions as email attachments addressed to webphotos@chilternphoto.org.uk
 

Upload Photos

Browse to select up to six files on your computer, enter your name and then press the "Submit Form" button to start the upload.

This page will display for the duration of the upload and it will then be replaced by an upload confirmation page.

If more than six files are to be uploaded, wait for confirmation of the the first six and then return to this page to select further files.
Limit the total size of file transfers within a session to 50 Mb.

Note. Internet upload speeds are always much slower than downloads so please be patient when uploading large files, this may take several minutes.
Please email Quiller Barrett, webphotos@chilternphoto.org.uk, to notify him when your upload session is complete:
PLEASE DO NOT USE AN APOSTROPHE IN THE FILE NAME because it will cause the upload to fail.
