In Pound Street, near the railway station, stood the Railway Hotel in years gone by, but in 2018 it was the Shoulder of Mutton. The venue was first recorded on the map in 1620 when it was central to the herding of livestock in the area. And the “pound” was where stray animals were penned, hence Pound Street.
