As we climb up to the hamlet of Langley End, a gap in the bushes allows us a view of Hitch Wood, which has well known walking paths through the lovely displays of bluebells seen in spring. The photograph shows a converted barn. Within yards we come to Hill End house, designed by Lutyens. During her wartime stay here, the novelist Daphne du Maurier wrote Frenchman’s Creek in 1941.
