En-route to Sharpenhoe Clappers, scrub and mature trees clothe the top of the escarpment, whilst crop-filled fields bordered by hedgerows stretch out as far as the eye can see – surely this is England at its best? It is thought John Bunyan called the Clappers his ‘Delectable Mountain’. GR 071295
