All Saints church viewed from the south east gate of the churchyard. The tower, in which traces of Saxon work have been identified recently, is battlemented and crowned with the traditional short spire known as the ‘Hertfordshire spike’. The lower part dates largely from the early 14th century, and the upper stage was built in the 15th century.
