The clever ZSL (Zoological Society of London) sign for Whipsnade Zoo – note the animal heads protruding into the lettering. The zoo opened on 23rd May 1931 following much construction work after an initial purchase of derelict Hall Farm in 1926 together with 600 acres of Chiltern downland.
