The memorial gardens at Stoke Poges were designed by Edward White in the 1930s after the 20-acre site was acquired by Sir Noel Mobbs “to preserve the tranquil and rural setting of the nearby St Giles church’. The gardens are remarkable: the ashes of more than 8,000 people are interred here, yet there are no buildings or monuments as in a cemetery.
