Part of the Saunders Memorial Tomb of 1693, by William Stanton, in St Leonard’s church. A poignant example of the sculptor’s art, it records the deaths of five children in infancy. The remaining daughter is shown kneeling on a cushion. She went on to inherit the Manor of Flamstead from her father and marry Edward Sebright, thus launching the Saunders Sebright dynasty.
