Netley Abbey, near Southampton Water, is the perfect mediaeval ruin. The monastery was built by the Cistercians in the thirteenth century. It has been the subject of many writings and paintings, and I especially love the vaulting in this shot.

Great textures and architectural features in this intimate interior of the Abbey. The darker arch to the shot-left and the brighter splash of light to the right provide some left-right differentiation helping the eye understand the depth and perspective.
