Northchurch bottom allotments are sited between the Grand Union Canal and the River Bulbourne; they have been in existence since 1830. In the early years the Rector of St Mary's church rented out land to parishioners with numerous regulations including regular church attendance and keeping the ground in good condition by applying manure. The ground is good, if a little stony, and the plethora of greenhouses suggests exotic plants are raised hereabouts.
