The first Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1832 but was demolished around 40 years later because it was structurally unsound. The new church was built in the Victorian Gothic Revival style using bricks faced with local flints and Bath stone dressings. The architect was John Oldrid Scott, son of Sir Gilbert Scott. The church was consecrated in 1878 and today is a Grade II listed building. In 1900 the tower was raised by five metres as a memorial to H W Cripps QC who gave the church its peal of six bells.
