A 16th century dovecote, which housed rock pigeons, not doves. When a month old they were taken to be cooked and eaten by the landowner. This example was originally part of Place Farm, which was demolished in the mid-70s. The chalk-limestone walls are 80cm thick and originally would have housed 200 pigeons.
