16) When you reach the point where the footpath reaches a stile there is an option to bear right, staying in the field to bypass the village but we will cross the stile and turn right along the road as the village is worth a visit. Just ahead at the road junction is a large house. Notice a number of the windows still bricked up as a result of the Window Tax, introduced in 1696 and finally repealed in 1861.
