Tomb of the two knights with their recumbent effigies in full armour; their heads rest on helmets and feet against hobby hawks. Sir Philip died aged 53 after being ambassador at the court of Emperor Charles the Fifth. Sir Thomas, his half-brother some 25 years younger, inherited Bisham; he also was a traveller, linguist and Queen Elizabeth’s ambassador to the Court of France. He died suddenly in Paris aged 36. Above the tomb are Latin verses composed by Elizabeth Lady Hoby expressing her grief.
