George III’s architect, James Wyatt, designed Stoke Park Mansion and ‘Capability’ Brown and Humphry Repton designed the landscape in 1792. Originally the home of the Penn family, founders of Pennsylvania, the estate was used as a private residence until 1908 when it was turned into Britain’s first country club with a golf course designed by Harry Colt. www.stokepark.com/book/prelims.pdf Author: Q Barrett
