West front and tower of St Peter's Roman Catholic church. Built of flint with stone dressings it was completed in 1846. Augustus Welby Pugin (1812-52), the architect, was a leading pioneer of the Gothic Revival style and designed many English and Irish churches, as well as the interior of Westminster Palace.
