We leave Great Gaddesden and move a short distance north west to Little Gaddesden. At the corner of the road to Ashridge is the Alford Cross. The development of Little Gaddesden in the 19C owes much to the wife of the 1st Earl Brownlow, Lady Marion Alford (1828-1888). She was concerned with renovating old properties and building new houses for the estate workers.
