Above St Leonard’s bell ropes are six bells weighing 50 tons. Five were cast on site in 1664 and the tenor bell in 1729. Poor James Clarke tragically met his end in 1893 when, ringing for a wedding, he turned and the rope took him up by the foot and dropped him on his head.
