When the children were old enough to be left, the Chilterns became a training ground for our Alpine summers. Sometime in the ’80s we bought Ron Pigram’s Discovering Walks in the Chilterns. We gave up our allotment and began to do his circular walks most Sundays. They were long, e.g. Stokenchurch, 10 miles, a circuit round Ibstone and Turville and back. Getting started again from the pub after lunch was always difficult! This picture is actually from later times when we passed the windmill above Turville.
