William Huckvale (1847-1936) lived in this house, Ardmore, in the High Street between 1900 and 1915. He designed this and many other distinctive buildings in Tring, mostly for Lord Rothschild. Their timber framing, steep roof pitches and ornate chimneys were characteristic of his 'Old English' vernacular architecture as a variant of the Arts and Crafts architectural style that still prevails in Tring.
