The nave of St Mary the Virgin’s church is now light and airy. Built in the 13th century, the walls were originally lower and the windows provided little light. The monks of Ashridge raised the walls and inserted larger windows in the 15th century. The remains of the old windows can be seen on the wall on the right.

The 15th century roof beams end in the form of carved Apostles resting on stone corbels made into grotesque heads. High in the roof there are 24 carved angels looking down. The building is listed Grade 1.
