Chiltern walks contributor guide
These are a few guidelines for photographers producing content for the PhotoGroup Chiltern walks web pages.
Photos
A mix of functional ones to show the way and just good pics that take your eye.
Include people (or even a dog) on the route when possible.
Aim for up to about 25 photos per walk; we may not include all of them.
Introductions, captions and maps
We encourage our photographers to be as personal as they like in their intros and captions. E.g. if relevant say what the weather was like, how many times you went back to the same walk, what printed directions were difficult to follow, which
way round the route you recommend people should walk and why, whether it was very muddy, why you found it particularly pleasant/boring etc. Easy parking, good beer/food in local hostelry?
Variations, particularly lengthening or shortening the prescribed route, would be useful to have.
There is no restriction on the amount of descriptive text that you can use on your walk introduction or photo captions, the more the merrier.
Where you feel it to be appropriate, indicate whether looking forwards or backwards on the route and in which direction the camera is pointing (cardinal points + NE, SE, SW, NW).
Provide on OS map reference for your walk start point and for any other points of interest that you might want to highlight on route. Refer to the Explorer series. Identify relevant Chiltern Society footpath maps
whenever possible.
Give date(s) photos were taken.
Provide an outline map of the walk marked with the locations where your photos were taken. A paper copy will be acceptable, a digitised one will be created for the web page.
See examples of walks already published on this site.
