Christopher Wren designed the Mansion in 1682. Much altered since, it has been the home of Colonel Guy (Groom of the Bedchamber to Charles II), Lawrence Washington (great-grandfather of George Washington) and the Rothschild family. Later it became the private and independent Arts Educational School which now stands in private grounds to the south of the town.
