Description Lee Common Jubilee Well. It was hand dug to improve the public water supply and was finished in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The diggers used candles to see what they were doing and a pair of the local blacksmith's bellows for ventilation.

Description The well is 365 feet deep and 4 feet 6 inches in diameter. There were two counter-acting buckets, each containing 25 gallons of water, that were raised by means of the handle on the right. The well was closed in the early 1950s due to pollution and was made a Grade II listed building in 1986.

The Lee is a secluded village 4 miles northwest of Chesham; it is pretty enough to feature in many TV series. Arthur Lasenby Liberty, who founded Liberty's store in Regent Street, lived in The Lee and had a significant influence on its appearance.
