The Crooked Billet, pre 1904. Built in the 17th century, the pub is Grade II listed. It was described in "School on the Ground Floor" by John H Baker in 1913 as being "the last word in remoteness and peaceful situation. A meadow slopes behind the house. On one side is an orchard and garden and on the other a yard and a large shed where the landlord carries on his trade as a 'bodger' (a chair-leg turner)." Photo courtesy of Cecil Lambourne. Author: ,
