The river Misbourne runs along the eastern edge of the churchyard passing some heavily pollarded willow trees. During its occasional periods of flood it overflows into the churchyard and once it almost reached the church door, swamping the boiler house, partly below floor level, necessitating the construction of a new boiler house, above ground, in 1960.
