The splendid 18th century front on this building hides its earlier origins. This was once the Crown Inn and how it gained its name of Burkes Lodge we don't know since it seems to have had no connection with the great statesman Edmund Burke who lived at Gregories (later called Butlers Court. His mansion has been demolished).
