High Wycombe used to be home to some 200 furniture makers. One of the few still operating in the town in 2006 is Stewart Linford, who leads a team of craftsmen producing bespoke furniture. Photographs were taken by Michael Bowker in 2005-6.

Description Stewart Linford started building chairs at Little Kingshill in 1977. Since 1983 he has operated from Kitchener Road, High Wycombe. The brick building dates from the 1930s and the new show room opened in 2000.

In 2003 the company received a Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation.

Description Kitchener Works: two-inch thick planks of English oak delivered after two years seasoning in a wood yard. The next stage is further drying in a kiln to reduce moisture content to 12%. The chair making shop is on the first floor of the building in the background, dating from the early 1900s. The ground level brick extension was built following proceeds from fire insurance in 1966.
