Ford End Watermill, near Ivinghoe, has been restored by Pitstone Local History Society and is the only working watermill in Bucks. More information can be found on www.fordendwatermill.co.uk. The photographs were taken by John Fitzgerald in April 2007.

Description Overshot waterwheels work by water entering the buckets at the top on the downrunning side.

Description The 5 feet wide wheel has a cast iron axle and spokes. The 30 wheel buckets were originally made from oak but have been replaced by galvanised metal ones.

Description The exit channel from the watermill was used to wash sheep prior to shearing.

Description The 'head of water', the difference in height between the millpond beyond the mill and the tailrace, is some 14 feet (4.27m) at Ford End.
