The cement works at Chinnor closed in 2000. Prior to its planned demolition the PhotoGroup was given access to the works in 2006 so that this distinctive Chiltern landmark could be recorded. Thanks to Les Westcott for help with the captions.

Description Northern end of Quarry 3 showing the "benches" - worked levels in the chalk face. The chalk quality of individual levels was known so, following laboratory analysis, material from specific benches was ordered to keep the cement quality constant. The benches were square cut allowing for long-term erosion to create a slope of 60 degrees.
