He progressed to administrative work that included purchasing fuel and ash for the process. Fly ash, added at 5% to high-grade chalk, was obtained from the coal burning power station at Didcot. Coal supplies came from Bolsover by rail until 1989. Owing to the cheaper price of imported coal, lorries then brought it direct from the docks. In the background is Quarry 2A.
